One of my local papers today had an article about how the US Marine Corps is instituting a ban on tattoos on their servicemen. Those who have tattoos now are ok, so long as they don't get new ones, and tattoos on new servicemen aren't acceptible.
Marines who violate this ban can risk imprisonment and dishonorable discharge.
I really have to sit back and wonder at the mindset of people these days. I get that image is important (especially if on, say, the hands, neck or face), but isn't it more important to have competent soldiers being enlisted regardless of whether they have any permanent skin markings? Aren't there other avenues of "poor image" that perhaps need addressing a bit more than soldiers with tattoos?
Seriously people, in the grand scheme of things why should this even be on anyone's radar? Has the USMC run out of qualified homosexuals to kick out of service?
