This Week in Netflix

Clerks 2, which we already know I adore, mostly.

Some indie horror flick that was damage d and wouldn't play. Grr.

And Splendor, a recent movie by Gregg Araki (Doom Generation, Nowhere, Mysterious Skin) . It was almost surreal, ok not almost, watching a romantic comedy written and directed by Gregg Araki (thankfully it was so splendidly left-of-center, as per usual, that it was still very much a movie of his). The plot deals with the polyamorous relationship between a woman and her two boyfriends, and the complications that ensue when she comes up pregnant. For romantic comedy, it was vastly entertaining, but still somewhat formulaic in ist sticking to the rules of the genre. Worth the rent, though, and not as overtly sexual as his other pictures for all you pervs out there.

I found myself oddly fascinated with Johnathan Schaech's face. I couldn't decide if he's aged well or not--from some angles he looked youthful and still attractive, from others he looked a big aged and dumpy. Evs.

State of the Evan Update

Are things good? Nope. Better? Yeah.

We're getting there.

Thanks Aimee, Drew, Adj and Chris for the support.

Meh

To pass the time while I back-up a disk, a meme via Aimee...

1. How old do you wish you were?
I'm fine being 32, though I do miss my 21 year old self.

2. Where were you when 9/11 happened?
At home.

3. What do you do when vending machines steal your money?
The only vending machine to ever steal my money is the soda machine at BaT Comics. When this happens I make them get me my diet pepsi.

Sometimes too kind, sometimes not at all.

5. If you had to get a tattoo, where and what would it be?
I already have two tattoos.

6. If you could be fluent in any other language what would it be?
I already speak another language, but if we're talking 100% fluency, I'd finish Japanese.

I'm on first-name basis with two of them. I only think kindly of one of them.

8. What do you consider a vacation?
Anything that lets me escape the daily stresses for a while.

I've done enough changing myself for people I love, including changes in locale. I'm done.

11. Are you touchy feely?

14. Favorite channels?
I have none.

15. Favorite place to go on a weekend?
Usually it's the same place I do go every weekend.

Showers. Baths are a rare thing and I typically only take them when I'm needing to unwind.

17. Do you paint your nails?
Only on special occasions.

No. People let me down too often in the past.

Two of the closest people to me in life are an interracial couple. I love them.

Eye candy

Fundamentals

I've spent today wallowing in the fact that I've come to hate my life and almost everything in it.

This is not a cry for help and I absolutely do not want any calls or visits to "help" me through what's wrong slash bothering me. Nor is it a cry for attention.

I've been hurt and have had my entire reality shattered by someone close and dear to me and every positive feeling I've ever had is gone. I only hope not forever.

I just feel numb, empty and dead inside and I'm sharing this with you to explain why I don't think I have anything for you for the foreseeable.

Well, It's Not Her 2 Front Teeth

Originally, I planned to have a great deal of fun poking at Denise's X-Mas list a little as I shared it here. Now, I don't have it in me anymore, though I encourage you to read and enjoy.

The Hard Sell

Allright, so it's that time of quarter again where I run all amok with my stuff on eBay.

Between wanting to pay all my bills on time, get some late Halloween gifts for a few of my peeps, and save up for both HeroClix Supernova in a week and Yuletide holiday in about a month I've decided to start digging deep into the comics collection to garner some cash--and everything's starting at a very inexpensive $0.99. (All of this and I'm desperately hoping to save for a laptop so I can, among other things, post more frequently).

Check it out (please). Those who know me'll probably be surprised at some of the titles I'm letting go. And don't bother with how you're too old for comics...even if that were true, you must have a kid, niece, nephew or grandkid out there who would love a nice stack of comics for Christmas.

As cool as all these goodies are, even more are going up this Sunday evening, along with a bevy of Heroclix uniques and limited editions and RPG books.

Thanks, peeps!

I hope everyone has a happy Thanksgiving (and I hope the Canadians had a happy Thanksgiving).

We will be spending it together with most of the people we are thankful for in life.

Cards

You are The Magician

Skill, wisdom, adaptation. Craft, cunning, depending on dignity.

Eleoquent and charismatic both verbally and in writing,
you are clever, witty, inventive and persuasive.

The Magician is the male power of creation, creation by willpower and desire. In that ancient sense, it is the ability to make things so just by speaking them aloud. Reflecting this is the fact that the Magician is represented by Mercury. He represents the gift of tongues, a smooth talker, a salesman. Also clever with the slight of hand and a medicine man - either a real doctor or someone trying to sell you snake oil.

True Colors

I just realized something I think is really cool irony. The badguy,
everything evil, is portrayed in black all of the time, while the
goodguys wear white. I just think it's really interesting considering
that priests, ministers, etc. wear black uniforms and suits all the
time. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?

A visit from the real old archives (read: me olde webpage)

9-21-98

I'm getting pissed at a lot of little things lately. I am especially
annoyed with the American press. Ayear ago we were prouncing around,
saying how wonderful we were because we didn't make huge issues out of
our leaders' personal lives, and would therefore never have a "tragedy"
like that of Princess Di. Of course, what has our press been involved
in for the past ten months? It wouldn't be an obsession with our
nation's leader and his prevalence for getting hummers from interns in
the oval office.

Who really gives a damn (if you do, I think you're a
total loser; and if my opinion of you matters that much to you, you're
even more of a total loser)?

I'm more concerned with the good he's done
our economy, but that doesn't seem to matter anymore. And of course he
lied, and of course that's against the law; but please, can you really
expect a married man to come clean to the world that he was having an
affair with his intern? Martin Luther King was an adulterer, and you
don't see folks condemning doctor King for his infedelity (rightly so,
I might add). Hell, president Kennedy shared his girlfriend with his
brother, and Teddy took his for a one-way swim. Why are they so popular
still? Why is Teddy still a senator? It's because Paula and Monica are
dogs, because ole slick willy got himself some puppies instead of a
model. I'd lie about it too.

I really believe it's time we had a revolution against our media:
boycott the sensationalist news papers and television programs, put
these journalists at the bottom of our caste system, dump our refuse on
their lawns instead of in landfills, trade them for the people of
Tibet, anything to make our journalism sincere again.

Ok, first of all, Firefox's Performancing is awesome.

The image “http://www.angelfire.com/ca/misterhappiest/images/tinyateam2.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

As much as I lament the loss of Justice League Unlimited and Teen Titans Go, I'm quickly getting over it as every Saturday the CW pumps out a new animated adventure of my all-time favorite super-team: the Legion of Super-Heroes.

While some of the characters have undergone more dramatic changes from their comic book versions in order to make them more tv interesting (like making Brainiac 5 robotic like Brainiac 1, which he ain't), and Superboy goes around calling himself Superman, I am so very loving this show.

It's great for the older fans, it's great for the kids, it's great for the lover of superheroes. Just overlook the fact it comes on right before the abominable new Batman cartoon.

Rainy Day Update

We finally got the vandalized and out-of-commission Mustang towed over to a friend's for storage until we can get it fixed w/o worrying over more people messing with it. Hooray, I'm not angry at Denise anymore.

Aimee is in a lot of pain. Wish her well, folks.

Thanks very much to any and all readers who contributed bids to my first wave of recent eBaying. You got me a decently nice chunk of the cash I need to raise. Remember, there's still plenty more up and plenty more going up as I sell off pretty much my entire childhood.

It's finally Autumn: cold and wet.

Ooh, and I'm being published again. A photo from a series of photos I took over the Summer has been accepted for publication for this Fall's Watershed Magazine, coming in December. Ironically, I'm not a photographer and they didn't want any of my poetry.

Hmph

I can't believe there's been a picture of Denise's butt for a week now and no one's commented.

Eternal Gratitude

The police arrested Bryan today and he's now being held at the county jail waiting to find out what the district attorney plans to do with him tomorrow. And it wouldn't have happened if not for Chrissy.

I'm a cynic, and I think most people, seeing Bryan out on the street, wouldn't have done as much as she did. Without the number to the pertinent police detective in hand, maybe they wouldn't do anything. She called me; she gave me all of the pertinent info for me to relay to the detective. And then she waited there, watching him, waiting for the cops. After some time without them arriving, she called me back and got the detective's number herself. And then she stayed and waited, to make sure he was found and arrested. And he was.

She's given our family a priceless gift--one I'll never forget: peace of mind, a little faith in humanity, friendship.

When I sat Lash down on my lap after school today and talked to him about this, he grew very quiet, and when I asked how he felt about Bryan's arrest he didn't say that he was happy; he said he was relieved that Bryan couldn't hurt anyone anymore. Relieved.

I've been a mess all day.

Thank you, Chrissy.

The Good Parts About Last Friday

I know I normally swirl the faces of people to preserve their anonymity...I'm just being lazy. Anyone who owns a shown face and wants their anonymity spared, lemme know and I'll adjust it. Butts, on the other hand, aren't faces.

The chippee with the mohawk and the guy with her are two random people we met that night. She's 16 and going to college. Super. He's 25 and as at least one of them is gasy, not tapping that.

Graded

As of this moment, I have only 46 papers left to grade. At the rate I'm going, I should, hopefully, be done sometime Friday afternoon. Yay ... and sigh.

More updates on interesting stuff after that.
