Well, the antibiotics are gone, and they took the sinus infection away with them. The cough and bronchitis, of course, are still here. Not raging as bad as before, but still way deep into the range of annoying. If I exert myself, I cough a fit. If I eat I cough a fit...
Sigh.
Lash is doing better.

Loss
Yesterday Lash learned that one of his friends had died in a car accident this week. Her family was on a trip to Mexico, driving through this awful fog we've had lately. Another car was parked on the highway and they didn't see it in time due to the fog (and lack of lights from the car). When they tried to avoid it, they rolled. The entire family was killed.
To his credit, Lash is dealing with the news fairly ok. He had a couple spontaneous crying jags yesterday. We talked about what had happened and how his friend is being missed.
It's such a hard situation.

Ill
I was so sick Monday that I was unable to get to the doctor. Instead I spent the day unconscious on the couch (and so our anniversary was fairly uneventful as well).
Tuesday I made Denise take Lash and me to the doctor (Lash had begun coughing and sniffling Monday).
Lash had the beginings of an ear infection. He's now on Dimetap.
I have really bad bronchitis and really really bad sinus infection. My head is in constant ache from all of the coughing, as are my back, shoulders, sides and diaphragm. I couldn't use the restroom yesterday without getting a cramp in my belly (and I've discovered it's impossible to bend over the bowl and vomit if your stomach is cramping). Feverish and lightheaded I'm having some difficulty concentrating. I spent Tuesday, most of it, unconscious on the couch as well.
I'm on ibuprofin, an albuterol inhaler, a steroid inhaler and antibiotics.
I'm gonna take a couple more days off and rest and try to feel better. Hopefully I'll be in fighting order again soon.

Still Sick
Well, my cough is still going strong. It's gotten quite annoying, frankly, and now that cough drops are no longer amelliorating it I think I'm going to make sure I have the free time, and take it, to go see a doctor and get this taken care of. I hate seeing doctors because they always lecture me on shit they think I can actually control, like reducing my stress... short of mind altering stress medication, the only way to reduce stress would be for me to abandon my family responsibilities, which isn't going to happen. I'm just so tired of the whole thing. Doesn't matter what I go in for, I always get the lecture on reducing the stress in my life and eating better (frankly, I eat quite healthily, I just don't show it). Which all leads up to being wracked with a cough for almost two months now and not having it looked at.
Sigh.
I imagine I'll be getting it done Monday, which also happens to be mine and Denise's anniversary.

the Wheels of the Ka go Round and Round
I have forgiven Stephen King.
He still killed my Jake, which still pisses me off a good deal. And he still shattered the fourth wall left and right, which annoyed me to no end--especially when he interrupted the novel prior to the last twenty pages to urge readers to stop reading (which I actually did).
But it's because of this advice that the Dark Tower ended in a place where it feels somewhat redeemed from my previous anger.
I now have six weeks of comic books that have been waiting for me to read them, and then on to something new to read or re-read.

Baby Update
I realized I haven't blogged any pregnancy news since announcing the discovery of a lump in Denise's breast.
As far as the ultrasound tech is concerned, the lump was just a swollen gland. I also am no longer able to feel it.
The ultrasound revealed that the placenta is currently resting on her cervix, which it should not be doing. It's likely that it will move off of the cervix as her uterus expands, which is the scenario we all want. If it doesn't, when she goes into labor they'll have to do a Caesarian or Denise'll bleed to death.
While it's all likely to be all right, it's actually really disheartening for me (Denise is not worried at all). With Lash, Denise almost died after birthing him. The placenta caused other problems when she was pregnant with Aeia and we almost lost Aeia.
As much as we want a larger family, I don't think I can risk making her pregnant again after this one.

Bad Hair Week
I got my haircut two days ago and I hate it. I look like a jarhead, which is fine for those who want to look like a jarhead. I, however, do not. Oh well, at least my hair grows quickly and I'll have it in a fauxhawk and dyed green again soon enough. I'm just tired of wearing a knitted cap to cover the bad hair already.
Fuck Stephen King. Fuck Him in His Fucking Ear!
As many of you know, I've been faithfully re-reading the Dark Tower series, and first reading the last three books in the series (all released in the past year), far and beyond my favorite story of Stephen King's. I write this in defense of those nutjobs (of which I must be one) who get so engrossed in the lives of fictional characters that what happens to these characters creates intense emotional, often somewhat insane, reactions. I mean, when Joey chose Pacey over Dawson, millions of teen girls were livid.
For me, it comes to this, for some unknown reason, my favorite chearacters always die. It's as if authors somehow channel into me, find what needs to be done in order to make me love a character and then goes out of their way to kill the character off, often in nonsensical out-of-character deaths. Sometimes it feels as if the author is saying that the characters I love aren't good enough. I hate falling in love with a fictional character and then seeing the character die.
It's less of a shock if the character is short-lived (perhaps spanning just one book, television episode or portion of a movie), but even then, if extremely well written/portrayed, it still gets me. It's worse when the fictional character is a part of your psyche for years and years. I can see why Annie goes so crazy in Misery and for the first time ever, I think I'm actually siding with her.
Take the Dark Tower as an example. While I've been reading the series only since 1992 (thirteen years for those who can't subtract), there are readers who've been with this cast of characters since the seventies; readers who have loved these characters and clamored for more books and lined King's pockets for thirty years. But note where I put the emphasis, because for true fans, that's the only place that really matters.
Imagine if Sam Raimi wrote an Evil Dead 4 movie. Imagine he writes himself in as a character--a character named Sam Raimi who created the universe that the main protagonist Ash lives in. Imagine this fourth installment revealing that for in order for Ash to save humanity from the Deadites, he has to save Sam Raimi from being hit by a van while walking in the woods so that Sam Raimi can live to write the fourth movie you're watching unfold. And then Ash gets hit by the van and dies saving Sam Raimi.
What the guff, man? Let's not just tear apart the fourth wall. Let's not just toss in an incredible headache of surrealism into a form that doesn't quite need it. No, instead, let's do all of that AND kill off our favorite character while doing so.
So, I'm a bit over halfway through the final book of the Dark Tower, already broken up inside a little over what's happened thus far, and then King does exactly that (only, obviously, it isn't Sam Raimi and Ash, it's Stephen King and his character, saving himself from the van that hit him in real life).
I literally almost stopped reading the book. I know that if I don't finish it in the next couple days, I likely will never finish it. These have been characters that have been a part of my psyche for half my life almost. This is a series I'm constantly dreaming up cast wish lists and script ideas for, because while there is no movie, there is one in my head. Though fictional, stepping into their world is like visiting an old friend. Stephen King just hit one of my best friends with a van meant for him.
